New 10-seater gondola lift
The Berwang Ski Arena is kicking off the 2025/2026 winter season with a highlight: after an intensive two-year construction phase, the new 10-person gondola lift – Obere Karbahn Section II – will officially go into operation on 13 December 2025. From this day onwards, winter sports enthusiasts will be able to float up to the Obere Kar in comfort and style for the first time.
‘With the Obere Karbahn II, we are significantly improving the quality and attractiveness of our ski resort. We are delighted to be able to present our guests with a state-of-the-art facility just in time for Christmas and would like to thank all the companies involved for their excellent cooperation during the construction phase,’ said Florian Singer and Gernot Falger, the two managing directors of Bergbahnen Berwang.
Important milestone for the Berwang ski resort
The completion of the second section of the Obere Karbahn marks the end of a major infrastructure project that began in 2019 with the construction of the first section. Delays caused by the COVID pandemic and the early construction of the Thanellerbahn had postponed the start of construction of the second section. This makes it all the more gratifying that the extensive work – from the avalanche barriers in the Scharte area to the foundations and construction of the mountain station to the complete installation of the cable car – was completed on schedule and that the new cable car will go into operation in time for the start of the season.
The new Section II replaces the former Thanellerkar T-bar lift and brings considerable advantages for guests and for the entire ski resort. The new mountain station is located around 140 metres above the former lift terminus, extending the existing slopes and significantly enhancing the resort's appeal. The previous mountain station of Section I now serves as the middle station.
Comfort, performance and modern skiing enjoyment
The single-cable gondola lift built by Doppelmayr impresses with state-of-the-art ropeway technology. It transports up to 2,500 people per hour and, thanks to a travel speed of 5 m/s, enables a fast and comfortable ascent to the Obere Kar. With its commissioning, the Berwang ski arena is enriched by another attractive lift and takes an important step in its long-term modernisation strategy.
